Stream using RTMP

OpenVSX provides RTMP support for both streaming and capture.

RTMP Streaming Server

Offer media to be viewed using RTMP bound to a listener on the RTMP port 1935.

./bin/vsx -v --in=input.sdp --rtmp=0.0.0.0:1935

To listen on a localhost socket only use --rtmp=127.0.0.1:1935

Offer Secure RTMP using SSL/TLS.

--rtmp=rtmps://0.0.0.0:1935

RTMP Capture Client

Connect to a remote RTMP server to request a media stream emulating a standard Flash client and record the content to recorded.flv.

./bin/vsx -v --capture=rtmp://x.x.x.x/app-name/stream-name --flvrecord=recorded.flv

To use a secure SSL/TLS RTMPS use --capture=rtmps://x.x.x.x:1935/app-name/stream-name

To retry up to three consecutive times if the remote server is not available add --retry=3. Use --retry to retry indefinately unless an unrecoverable error occurs.

RTMP Capture Server

Run an RTMP capture server for ingesting a stream from a remote RTMP publish client such as Flash Media Encoder using RTMP PUBLISH. The stream will be available for viewing by a combination of HTTP streaming methods on port 8080.

./bin/vsx -v --capture=rtmp://<username>:<password>@0.0.0.0:1935 --flvlive=8080 --mkvlive --dash --httplive ----live

To require authmod adobe digest based authentication you can specify a username and password using the following standard syntax.

--capture=rtmp://<username>:<password>@0.0.0.0:1935

To view the live stream you can connect a device to http://<OpenVSX IP>:8080/live

RTSP Streaming Publish Client

Connect and publish media to a remote RTMP capture server.

./bin/vsx -v --in=input.sdp --stream=rtmp://x.x.x.x/app-name/stream-name

To require authmod adobe digest based authentication or an alternate port you can specify a username and password using the following standard syntax.

--stream=rtmp://<username>:<password>@x.x.x.x:2000/app-name/stream-name

To use a secure SSL/TLS RTMPS use --stream=rtmps://<username>:<password>@x.x.x.x:1935/app-name/stream-name
