How to use OpenVSX with Youtube Live Streaming

You can use OpenVSX as an incoming stream publisher or stream to one or more Wowza Streming Engine servers. The preferred method is to use RTMP.

Stream to Wowza with RTMP

Publish a live stream to YouTube using RTMP.

  • You first need to enable your YouTube account for live events. This is usually done through YouTube Account Settings -> View Additional Features -> Live Streaming.
  • Setup a live stream or event by going to YouTube My Channel -> Video Manager -> Live Streaming.
  • Take note of the assigned Server URL such as rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live
  • Take note of the assigned Stream name/key such as mychannelname.uakg-4ozq-a7nb-2ub8
  • Use RTMP stream output to publish a live stream to YouTube. The YouTube live channel status should automatically go from offline to live after a few seconds.

./bin/vsx -v --in=<sdp file> --stream=rtmp://<YouTube Server URL><YouTube Stream Name>

In this case the format would be --stream=rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live/mychannelname.uakg-4ozq-a7nb-2ub8
